Research and innovation

Our research ranges from fundamental advances in algorithms and our understanding of computation, through to highly applied research into new display technologies for clinical diagnosis, energy-efficient data centres, and profound insight into data through visualisation.

We have strong links with the Leeds Institute for Data Analytics, Robotics Leeds and the Leeds Institute for Fluid Dynamics. We're also a partner of The Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s national institute for data science and artificial intelligence.

Our research

Our interdisciplinary research is conducted across the following key research areas, and the Centre for Computational Imaging and Simulation Technologies in Biomedicine, which spans Computing and Medicine.

Our research covers several areas of robotics and artificial intelligence. Through this diversity we play a leading role in the global trend towards the re-integration of artificial intelligence.

More on Artificial Intelligence

This research covers both applications in Biology, Medicine and Health, and corresponding fundamental advances in computing.

More on Computing in Biology, Medicine and Health

The discipline of algorithms and complexity theory attempts to categorise computational problems according to the efficiency with which they might be solved in the large scale.

More on Algorithms and Complexity

We explore emerging issues regarding the performance of infrastructure and systems in the generation of distributed/internet computing.

More on Distributed Systems and Services

We focus on the analysis and implementation of fast, efficient, correct, and reliable numerical algorithms for physical problems, simulation, graphics, rendering, animation and visualization.

More on Computational Science and Engineering

We perform cutting-edge research in areas of fundamental and applied biomedical imaging and modelling.
