This is an exciting opportunity to undertake a 4 year funded integrated PhD and MSc in Bioenergy.
The first 18 months is an intensive period of learning, which includes a research project, taught modules, interdisciplinary team projects and an industrial placement.
Duration: 4 years
Start date: Arrival 24 September 2018 (Official Start 1 October 2018)
Application deadline: Closed
Number of places: Up to 10 funded places available for September 2018 entry

Early after arrival and induction you will develop an individual personal development plan. This will help inform your module choices and the selection of skills/professional development activities you'd like to undertake.
Year 1 and 2: You will study 180 credits of taught material required for the MSc component of the integrated degree.
Compulsory modules include: Advanced Renewable Technologies (15 credits), two Interdisciplinary Team Research Projects (2 x 45 credits), and the Transferable Skills & Professional Development activities (which covers aspects of practical training, responsible innovation, team working, public engagement, outreach, commercial awareness development, and other skill development activities including the industrial placement) (15 + 30 credits).
Optional modules (2 x 15 credits) will be selected from a wide and varied list on offer based on your personal development plan.
PhD research begins during semester 3 in year 1.
A full standard studentship consists of academic fees (£4,195 in Session 2017/18), together with a maintenance grant (£14,553 in Session 2017/18) paid at standard Research Council rates and a Research Training Support Grant (RTSG).
Generally, UK students will be eligible for a full award and other European Union applicants will be eligible for an award paying academic fees and RTSG only, except in cases where residency in the UK has been established for more than 3 years prior to the start of the programme of study. Places are available for students who have their own funding.
We welcome scholarship applications from all suitably-qualified candidates, but UK black and minority ethnic (BME) researchers are currently under-represented in our Postgraduate Research community, and we would therefore particularly encourage applications from UK BME candidates. All scholarships will be awarded on the basis of merit.
A degree equivalent to a UK upper second class honours (2:1), or higher, in engineering, environmental science, chemistry, physics or mathematics.
Applicants with a 2:2 first degree will not be considered, even if they also have a Master's level degree.
