Background

In 2016, I graduated from the University of the West of England with a BSc in Environmental Science. This had a strong focus on renewable energy and conservation biology. After graduating I secured a job as an analytical chemist for Slickers Recycling Ltd. which gave me industry level lab experience as well as providing me with a wide range of knowledge in analytical methods.

Research Interests

My main area of interest is the use of macroalgae to make an economically viable fuel through the treatment of wastewater. I believe that bioenergy will contribute to the future energy market. The biggest barrier it faces is whether it can compete with alternative fuels economically. The best way to increase this economic viability is with secondary products or services.

Why I chose Bioenergy CDT

My aim has always been to pursue a career in research. I am convinced that bioenergy will be a big part of a carbon neutral future. The bioenergy course allows a large amount of freedom that other forms of research don’t and coming straight from a BSc I have been fortunate to integrate my masters into the process. Being part of a cohort has made this process smooth and enjoyable. The group dynamic ensures that we all feel included and are happy to help each other.
